Hi there, Sophomores! I hope that you’ve had a wonderful and relaxing Labor Day weekend! I’ve spent the extra day off grading tests and papers, but the rest of the weekend has been wonderful. 🙂
We’ll be getting back into the swing of things tomorrow as we start our study of Speak. Make sure that you’ve read through page 92 by class tomorrow. As you read Speak, keep The Scarlet Letter in the back of your mind and try to think about themes that connect the two novels. Think particularly about motivation–how is their motivation different? Do they view the world differently? (Notice, please, that I write about Literature and characters from Literature in the present tense. Every time you read a novel, the same thing happens, so that’s why we use present tense to discuss action in a novel. 🙂 ) As you are reading tonight, I also want to encourage you to pay particular attention to how the different characters in Speak are described. 🙂
Here’s a look at the week ahead for English class:
- Begin discussion questions 1-17 from Speak Study Guide in small groups and then whole class
- Continue discussion questions 1-17 from Speak Study Guide in small groups and then whole class
- AotW response due
- In-class essay mini lesson and tips
- Finish question 1-17 discussion
In Drama this week, we’ll be finishing performing those duo scenes and working on some lessons in Stanislavski method.
Let’s have a great week!
